What is Step Up for Students?

Step Up for Students is a state-approved nonprofit scholarship organization that helps Florida families access educational options that best meet their children's needs. Through Florida's scholarship programs, eligible students can receive funding to attend participating private schools such as Family Christian Academy.

Private School Scholarships may be used toward:

Tuition and fees at eligible private schools
Registration costs
Books and instructional materials
Testing fees and other approved educational expenses

Florida students who are residents of the state and eligible to enroll in a K-12 public school may qualify to receive an average of $7,700 a year, per child, for tuition and other educational needs.

Scholarship amounts vary by student and program. In many cases, scholarship funding covers a significant portion of tuition costs. Families are responsible for any remaining balances not covered by scholarship funding.

How Does It Work?

Step 1: Apply for a Step Up Scholarship

Visit the Step Up for Students website and complete the scholarship application.

Create your EMA account
Select the scholarship
Review the scholarship application checklist
Follow the on-screen prompts to fill out the application
Sign and submit

Step 2: Apply to Family Christian Academy

Complete the FCA admissions application and begin the enrollment process.

Step 3: Submit Your Scholarship Award Information

Once approved and before scholarship funds can be released, there are a few important steps that must be completed to ensure your student is properly enrolled and eligible for funding.

Accept Your Child's Scholarship
Provide FCA with your Step Up Award ID
Review and Approve the Enrollment

Step 4: Complete Admissions Requirements

Families will complete:

Family Interview
Academic Assessment (K-12 students)
Required enrollment paperwork
Financial meeting with FCA administration, if applicable

Step 5: Begin Your FCA Journey

Our team will help guide you through enrollment and answer questions along the way.

Each quarter, we will initiate the scholarship payment process by submitting an invoice for you to approve in your EMA account.

Before funds can be released, a parent or guardian must log in to EMA to review the payment and either approve or deny it. To avoid delays in your student’s tuition payment, we recommend completing this step promptly upon receiving an email notification.
